Based in Tokyo, Ryo Matsuoka works independently and has held various exhibitions
in collaboration with fashion brands and other artists. Recently he has expanded
his activities globally and as well as holding exhibitions in collaboration with
various popular fashion stores here in Tokyo, has worked with the famous "Barneys
New York". He has also collaborated with the designer "Yohji Yamamoto"
(his 2004 Spring/Winter Paris collection) and the famous selection shop "L'ECLAIREUR
rue des Rosiers" in Paris.
Ryo's specialty is painting with his hands, using no brushes. While at first glance
the pictures look easily created, they overflow with a finely woven pop feeling
that combines carefully constructed explosive power with intense color usage.
It is this "popness" that grabs people of all different ages, regardless
of nationality of gender. |
"Tokyo Play Painting" was filmed over a period of more than 6 months.
Included are scenes of live painting events that get others involved, something
that Ryo is particularly committed to doing, and guerilla live events staged on
rooftops. Many of the artworks that he has produced up until now are also featured.
Already we are taking orders for this DVD from specialty shops in France where
Ryo has become quite popular. Presently (end of October) we are working on the
final editing of the film. After showing the documentary at American Film Market
2004 in November we will start promotion of the film. We are aiming to have the
film completed in December 2004. You can expect a film that portrays the pure
joy of painting and the current Tokyo art scene. |
